David Y. Poon, MD
Dr. Poon graduated magna cum laude with highest honors in Biology from Harvard College. He then earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. After medical school, he completed both his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital- Wilmer Eye Institute. Following his fellowship, Dr. Poon and his family moved back to New York to practice near his hometown.Dr. Poon has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in ophthalmic literature including research on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion. His other areas of expertise include repair of retinal detachments, macular holes, and macular pucker. Together with his partners at Long Island Vitreoretinal Consultants of NY, he continues to conduct clinical research in an effort to further improve the treatment of retinal diseases. His strength is delivering top-quality care that is personalized and patient-centered.
Dr. Poon is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been awarded research grants from both the Johns Hopkins Hospital- Wilmer Eye Institute and the National Institute of Health.
