Juan M. Romero, MD

Dr. Romero received his Physician and Surgeon degree at the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Colombia in 1995, where he graduated in the top 5-percent of this class. He then served one year helping prevent blindness as a doctor in community service in the Ocular Health Department at the Santander Ophthalmological Foundation in Bucaramanga, Colombia. He moved to the United States and passed with high scores the USMLE medical boards and became ECFMG certified.

He did research as a fellow in retinal imaging at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary for two years. After his internship at the Hospital of Saint Raphael of Yale University, he returned to the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary to complete his ophthalmology residency. He received his Vitreo-Retinal fellowship training at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. He became Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology with a 99-percentile score in the written exam.

Wanting to return to New York and his alma mater, he came back to the Infirmary and served as a part time faculty in the Retina Center while in private practice for three years. He joined Long Island & Queens Vitreoretinal Consultants of NY in 2007.
